Humberstone Animal Hospital

Our name carries a story very close to the heart. Humberstone is a historic mining town in the north of Chile, a place defined by resilience, hard work, and heritage. Today it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for us, it holds even a deeper meaning — it is where one of our founders comes from. Bringing this name to our hospital is our way of keeping that connection in our new home: The United States of America.

For travelers from around the world, Humberstone is a must-see stop in the Chilean Pampa. Surrounded by the vast beauty of the Atacama Desert, its antiquity and mystery continue to inspire wonder. In the same way, Humberstone Animal Hospital is a place where pet owners will find something special: high quality of medical care, trust and a sense of family for their loved ones.

Our hospital is founded on the belief that every animal deserves to be treated with respect and the same dedication and affection as a member of our own family. Within our walls, history is not only remembered but lived — in the way we welcome each client, in the bond we form with every patient, and in the promise we make to stand by you through every stage of your pet’s life. We are honored that you have chosen us to walk that journey with you.

Thank you for being here.
With love,
Humberstone Animal Hospital

Dr. Erika Geraldo, MV, MS, DVM

Co-Founder & Medical Director

Dr. Geraldo is a Chilean-American veterinarian with more than 15 years of experience in the field. She graduated from Universidad de las Americas School of Veterinary Medicine in Chile and successfully passed the ECFVG in the United States. Her career has been dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to animals of all kinds. Throughout her professional journey, Dr. Geraldo has worked extensively in shelter medicine, emergency medicine, veterinary forensics involving animal abuse cases and investigations, and has developed a special expertise in the care of ferrets. She advocates for animal protection and education, embodying her belief that every animal deserves a healthy and happy life.
Driven by a lifelong passion for animal welfare and community service, Dr. Geraldo co-founded Humberstone Animal Hospital with the goal of creating a welcoming environment where animals and their families receive an exceptional medical care and personalized attention. She has a passion for animal welfare and often participated in local outreach and educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Geraldo enjoys spending time with her family and her 7 ferrets! (Ferrah, Tommy, Mika, Brooklyn, Bando, Moose and Percy. Kisses to heaven for Travis), exploring nature, and staying active in her community. When she’s not caring for animals, she loves workout, traveling, sketching, and relaxing at the beach.

Dr. Hernandez earned her degree in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics from the Agrarian University of Havana in 2013. Growing up on a small family farm in Cuba surrounded by animals, she developed a deep love and respect for them from an early age — a passion that has guided her throughout her life.
She has worked in both general practice and emergency medicine, experiences that have shaped her calm, thorough, and compassionate approach to veterinary care. Dr. Hernandez has a special interest in preventive and internal medicine, and she believes that trust and communication between veterinarian and pet owner are key to every pet’s well-being.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and her three dogs — Yokitin, Negrita, and Simon Calandraco — who fill her home with joy and endless stories. She is bilingual and currently resides in Lehigh Acres, Florida.

Sully Gonzalez

General Practice Manager

Ever since she was a child, she has had a deep love for animals. She grew up caring for my own pets and often helped family members with theirs, which naturally led me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. For the past six years, I’ve dedicated myself to being a voice for animals—diagnosing their health issues, providing compassionate care, and supporting the strong bond they share with their humans.
What I love most about this field is the mix of heart and science. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to learn, solve problems, and make a meaningful difference. I’m especially passionate about preventative care and educating pet owners, so their companions can live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
When I’m not working, you can find me reading, cooking, enjoying the beach, or spending quality time with my kids and my two fur babies, Theo and Tanzy. I’m also a big movie fan and love quiet evenings at home surrounded by the ones I love—both two- and four-legged!

She focuses on low-stress snuggles, belly rubs, and compassionate care for every furry friend who comes through our doors. This fall, she will be starting my journey to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
When she is not at the clinic, she is busy being a wife, a mom to three awesome kids, and the caretaker of our wild little zoo: three dogs, two cats, and one very cool snake. For her, veterinary medicine is the perfect mix of brains and heart—with a little fur thrown in for good measure.
